The Ethics Review Appeals Board

If the Swedish Ethical Review Authority has taken a decision which is unfavourable for the research principal, the research principal can appeal the decision at the Ethics Review Appeals Board.

The appeal must be addressed to the Ethics Review Appeals Board but submitted to the Swedish Ethical Review Authority which checks that the appeal has been received in time. The Swedish Ethical Review Authority then sends the appeal and all appurtenant documents to the Ethics Review Appeals Board.

If the Swedish Ethical Review Authority is not in agreement about the outcome of the ethical review, the authority must hand over the case to the Ethics Review Appeals Board. When the Swedish Ethical Review Authority hands over a case, it must attach its own statement.

The Ethics Review Appeals Board also has some responsibilities for the supervision of the observance of the Ethical Review Act and regulations supported by the law.

The ethical guidelines and laws that regulate and place ethical demands on research processes are stated in Codex - rules and guidelines for research.
